Our Mission for Global Warming is Real
Global warming, environmental stewardship, the energy economy, and creating a sustainable future are the issues of our times. What we do as a civilization today will affect our progeny for generations to come. Global Warming is Real is published to help raise awareness of the reality before us.
We work hard to aggregate and synthesize the latest news and information together in one place for our readers. As with any blog, any magazine, any newspaper, any television talking head, you should not assume everything we say or present is always 100% accurate. Challenge us. But be prepared to back up your argument, and demand the same from us.
The content offered here is meant to educate, enlighten, perhaps enrage, and maybe even entertain. If it gets you thinking seriously about global warming and sustainability, then we’ve done our job.
By its very name – Global Warming is Real – we give away our “bias”. We have an opinion about the science, politics, and policy of climate change and we express it in our editorial rants category.
We are not scientists (though some of our best friends are). We read and study extensively on these issues (this makes us loads of fun at parties); some of us are involved in policy on a daily basis, we are all thought leaders and advocates for environmental sustainability and the reality of climate change in our world.
We participate in expeditons in support of science and pursue international policy efforts to understand climate protection and create a sustainable energy economy. In December of 2009 we attended the COP15 Climate Change conference as independent press observers under the auspices of the UNFCCC. We do our best to stay informed on climate science and policy.
But ultimately we are merely concerned citizens interested in raising awareness of the issues of climate change, global warming, energy use, and sustainable living; presented for other concerned citizens to help them make sense of the challenges we face in the early 21st century.

Comments on Our Mission for Global Warming is Real
Hi,
I had trouble emailing you at the link above so I am pasting my mail here. I hoe you find it interesting enough to contact me.
I would like to introduce our new project to you and perhaps you would be able to talk about us.
Tree-Nation will plant 8 million trees in Africa in the shape of a huge heart to fight Global Warming and Poverty. We will create the park in Niger which is one of the poorest countries in the world, and one that suffers the most from climate change and desertification. http://www.tree-nation.com
We have recently become affiliated with the United Nations Environment Program in support of each others projects. http://www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign/CampaignNews/21Dec-treenation.asp
We have built a great new kind of website that combines a community with our own mapping tool. Inspired by Google maps we built our own special version to be able to plant 8 million trees, all with blogs and profiles. http://tree-nation.com/community_map.php
So via our website you can buy trees for yourself or offer and send one to someone you love, and people are doing this for Weddings, Valentines, new born babies, birthdays, to advertise a business, or simply to share some thoughts. You can plant a tree on a virtual map and a real tree will be planted in the same place in the real world. The virtual trees all have Tree-Blogs and Profiles so that you can keep in touch with the recipient and interact with others who have bought trees via our community. You can share ideas, photos, messages, make contacts and debate on environmental issues.
It really is exciting to see members buying trees, writing beautiful messages and then sending them to loved ones via our web site.
With all this in mind the best thing is that we get to do all this and care about our environment at the same time.
I really hope you like our story, and please feel free to contact me anytime.
Many thanks

Hello,
Been meaning to drop a line for a while, I read your blog from time-to-time, you’re doing a great job. Love your url! Doesn’t get any clearer than that!
Anyways, I am wondering if you want to swap links on our sites? I am trying to create a really comprehensive blog roll — it’s a bit of mess right now, but I am planning on developing a cool new way of organizing messy/large blogrolls.
Let me know.
Regards,
Kevin@desmogblog.com
Kevin,
Thanks for your comment. I’ll be in touch via email.
Best,
Tom
Hey Tom,
Nice comprehensive blog you have here
I also like the domain name. Would you like to do a link swap with my site? It’s about the Live Earth concerts and becoming very popular.
Keep in touch, best of luck with your site!
This is what people should do- spread the word! Our blog is doing the same thing as yours (we’re no fun at parties either) except for the fact that we write about the future (and a little about the environment, a couple ideas here and their).
Keep up with the site, it looks good!

I don’t think anyone disputes that Global Warming is real.
What people like me DO dispute are the effects of global warming.
For example, I dispute that global warming will cause hurricanes to increase. I’d even go as far as to argue that because the “cold sinks” (Arctic, Nighttime) are increasing in temperature faster than the “hot sources” (equator, Daytime), the net work done on Earth’s surface (All renewable energy except solar and geo) must decrease. That includes hurricanes. If it didn’t, it would violate the second law of thermodynamics. (See Carnot cycle, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnot_cycle)
Hey Tom,
Thanks for the comment. Some interesting points. Does this refer just to increasing frequency or severity as well? I’ll check out your wiki source.
But I must disagree with your assertion that nobody disputes that global warming is real. Check out some of the comments I get here!
Anyway, thanks for the discussion.
Hi,
I found your website while searching for green sites, and thought that you might be interested in what our company, FoodServiceWarehouse.com, is doing to actively promote green practices in the restaurant industry.
FoodServiceWarehouse.com is a Greenwood Village, Colorado company that was started by a group of avid environmentalists. Our commitment to the environment can be seen from the environmentally conscious way that we run our own company and the programs we have developed to help the restaurant industry become more environmentally responsible.
As part of our services, we have created an industry leading certification program aimed at helping commercial kitchens cope with the costs and complexities of going green. The program features educational resources, rewards and the industry’s only free certification process, modeled after, and fulfilling credits for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification.
We invite you to visit our website http://www.foodservicewarehouse.com/going-green/c11836.aspx , and check out what we think is the most complete resource on the web for commercial kitchens looking to go green.
And to show our dedication in helping commercial kitchens slash energy costs, conserve water and reduce their environmental impact, we are giving away a green commercial kitchen worth up to $40,000 to one qualifying kitchen.
We are eager to spread the word about our tremendous Green Commercial Kitchen Giveaway. As an incentive for this, we are offering a $1,000 reward to whichever site refers the winning entry to us. If you are interested in this, all you need to do is place the link below on your blog by September 30, 2008, and reply to this e-mail to let us know it’s there. The link must still be in place on the the day that we notify the winner of the program, which will be on or about December 1st, 2008.
The html code for the link is shown below.* Graphic banners are available upon request.
I hope you find our Going Green Program to be a valuable resource for your readers and share our enthusiasm for helping the restaurant industry go green.
Sincerely,
Ashley Howard

I already work for a environmental company, called ASC Services. This is the second time, I have come across this information. What can I do to help. This is a really serious problem.

Wow!! If I was a visitor from another planet and read all the conflicting viewpoints and pseudo-science concerning this global warming/cooling issue, I’d turn around and leave as quickly as possible. There appears to be no meaningful scientific consensus that is not tainted with political agenda/bias, ego or greed.
May God help you all!!!

Hello,
You may find this website interesting: http://www.fourgreensteps.com/
Four Green Steps is an organization dedicated to providing people with a platform for taking green action. There is a market place for eco-friendly and green products, an infozone with the latest news concerning the environment, a community zone with blogs and opinions, and an environmental school curriculum.

Hi Tom — I’ve been following your blog for about two years, and I’m especially interested in your periodic posts on energy efficiency, since that’s my domain. I’m associated with Recycled Energy Development (recycled-energy.com), a company that turns the waste heat from manufacturers’ smokestacks into clean power and steam. On our blog, we provide links and analysis on new developments in the energy efficiency world, particularly on issues involving combined heat and power and waste energy recovery. The potential nationwide is massive — far more than most observers realize — and we want to get the word out about the opportunity for us to fight climate change in a way that helps the economy. Our site has a lot of resources for people who want to know more.
Would you be interested in cross-linking via our blog rolls? I’d also be happy to send you some news articles on RED, which has been featured lately in the New Republic, the Nation, and Al Gore’s new book, among other places.
Please let me know if you’re interested in cross-linking. Thanks much for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Miggs – I’m following up here to see if you received the email I sent regarding cross-linking. Feel free to get back to me at your convenience.
hey tom,
why is it that you erase any kind of message questioning global warming on this site? global warming is fake, just like you. we will meet in person very soon to “discuss” this issue!! have a great day and go fuck yourself!!!!
Hey Dick – if you think I’ve erased every message that questions global warming you either haven’t even looked, are stupid, or completely insane. Maybe all three. I look forward to meeting you in person to discuss it.
Right back at ya’ – Now go crawl back into your hole.
GLOBAL WARMING IS NOT INFLUENCED BY HUMANS . . .
1) POLITITIANS AND IMPORTANT PEOPLE ONLY SUPPORT IT BECAUSE THEY FEEL THEY HAVE TO OTHERWISE THEY WOULD BE VERY HARSHLY PUBLICISED
2) AS THE TEMPERATURE GOES UP, THEN THE CO2 GOES UP NOT THE OTHER WAY – THE CO2 LEVEL DOES NOT INFLUENCE THE TEMPERATURE
3) THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN WAY HIGHER THAN IT IS NOW HUNDREDS OF YEARS AGO AND POLAR BEARS AND SUCH ANIMALS DIDN’T DIE OUT THEN DID THEY??
LETS SEE HOW YOU COME UP WITH A COMEBACK NOW EH?
Hey there “Global Warming is not, etc,”
You really want me to respond to this?
1) Heavens knows our politicians and “important people” don’t want to be “harshly publicized.”
2) Really? Really? Cite your source my friend. I’d love to find out how the CO2 emitted from burning fossil fuel, land use changes, agriculture, and deforestation have no bearing on CO2 levels in the atmosphere. So, not only are you arguing that increased CO2 levels have no bearing on global mean temperature, but CO2 emissions have no bearing on CO2 levels, and rising temperatures do? Fascinating.
3) Actually, “hundreds” of years ago was the “Little Ice Age” (look it up – though I’d assumed you’ve had done that already), so perhaps you mean “thousands” or “millions” of years ago? So since the “polar bears and such animals” didn’t die out then, this has a bearing on what is happening now… how? Perhaps you’d like talk to a wildlife biologist that studies polar bears about this? (you can look that one up right here)
Oh, never mind, I’m not sure what you’re really even talking about – and neither are you.
Finally, WHY ARE YOU YELLING?
Hi Thomas,
I’m potentially being dense here, but I can’t seem to find an email address to contact you at…
I’m wanting to speak to discuss a sustainable carbon forestry affiliate program. Could you provide me with an email address?
thanks!
Callie
Hi Callie, I sent an email. Let me know if you didn’t receive it. Thanks!
