Satellite photos kept secret by the previous administration have just been released showing the rapid and stark retreat of the polar ice sheets. That the Arctic is the “canary in the coal mine” in regard to global warming (to use a rather ironic turn of phrase in this instance) isn’t new. Scientists have been reporting on the accelerated retreat of Arctic ice for some time now. What is curious to me that Bush tried to keep these photos from view. Why?
