Facing off in California’s Senate race with incumbent Senator Barbara Boxer this November is Carly Fiorina, whose biggest claim to fame is nearly driving HP into the ground. Earlier this month Fiorina made the rookie-like mistake (made by newbies and veterans alike) of saying something offensive, inappropriate, or stupid near an open microphone; in her case by having good schoolgirl fun with Boxer’s hairdo. How “yesterday” indeed.

Despite a three-day stalemate between Democrats and Republican on the Senate Energy and Public Works committee, the Clean Energy Jobs and American Power Act passed out of committee on an 11-1 vote. Republicans refused to participate in the markup session of the bill, saying that the EPA needed to conduct a more thorough cost analysis. The minority leader, infamous climate change denier James Inhofe of Oklahoma, characterized Senator Barbara Boxer’s insistence on moving forward without the minority as “the nuclear option.”

As promised, Republican members of the Senate Energy and Public works committee failed to show up at the mark-up session for the Kerry-Boxer climate and energy bill convened by chairperson Senator Barbara Boxer, save for a brief appearance by Ohio Senator George Voinovich – who showed up for a brief time to deliver a prepared statement as to why they weren’t showing up. Ostensibly, the Republican’s justify their refusal to participate in the deliberative process (i.e. their jobs) because they claim there is not sufficient cost-analysis on the bill from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
